Ridetech Tall AFX Hub Spindles add the performance and simplicity of late model Corvette hubs and brakes to your muscle car!
Hub and Brake Compatibility:
Hubs – 1997-2013 Corvette (C5/C6) or 2014-2019 Corvette (C7). C7 hubs are preferred, they are stronger and more cost effective as they don’t have a wheel speed sensor (Moog 513378).
Brakes – Any 1997-2013 Corvette (C5/C6) will fit (OE replacement or aftermarket). Ridetech caliper brackets are required. (Part # 11009546)
Regarding brake pad knockback and deflection: While traditional pin spindle technology still gets the job done, later model hub style designs are superior when it comes to a use case involving motorsports like autocross or especially road course track days.
In some cases pin spindles can allow deflection in the braking system which can lead to brake pad knockback. Brake pad knockback occurs when lateral forces during cornering or bumps cause the brake rotor to shift away from the brake pads, forcing the caliper pistons back into their bores. This can lead to a spongy brake pedal and a longer pedal stroke before the brakes engage.
This IS NOT something that someone who just drives their car on the street should concern themselves with as the typical street driven vehicle will not see chassis component flex that would allow components to change in their relative position to one another. Pin spindles also were designed for use on vehicles that weren’t using the sticky tire compounds of today and when coupled together can invite the knockback phenomenon into occurring.
Most drivers concerned with on-track performance have shifted their vehicles spindle to a bearing pack spindle like our Tall AFX Hub spindle which is much stronger and reduces knockback.
