At Carli, the ideal pinion angle is traditionally accepted as 1°-3° in stock applications, a guideline Carli has always followed. However, some customers have reported a driveline vibration around 70mph when under power from the rear driveline, even within this range. To address this, Carli brought an affected vehicle into the shop and installed 2° pinion shims, which successfully alleviated the issue.
Testing revealed that the end pinion measurements on the two tested vehicles were 4° and 5°, respectively. Both vehicles operated perfectly smooth under power at all speeds. This led Carli to revise the accepted standard, favoring the higher figures for lifted applications. After all, results speak for themselves!
