Volvo Giving Away $2 Million Worth Of Cars For Super Bowl LV

Following the success of last year's campaign, Volvo is bringing back what it calls the Volvo Safety Sunday for this year's Super Bowl on February 7. Last year, the Swedish automaker, which has long placed a significant emphasis on automotive safety technologies and features, offered $1 million worth of cars if one of the two teams scores a two-point safety.
This was done to celebrate the more than one million lives saved by the three-point safety belt, which Volvo invented in 1959. It then opened its patent to all automakers.
For 2021, the automaker wants to save "a million more" with new systems aimed at tackling the three remaining safety challenges: speed, intoxication, and distraction.
Instead of $1 million worth of free cars, it's now pledging to double that amount. That's right. Volvo will give away $2 million worth of cars, no strings attached, if the Kansas City Chiefs or Tampa Bay Buccaneers score a safety in this year's big game.
Those unfamiliar with American football should know that a safety is scored only when the ball carrier is tackled or forced out of bounds in his own end zone, or if the ball becomes dead in the end zone (the exception being if there's an incomplete forward pass) with the defensive team being responsible for it being there.
This two-point play, which results in two points to the defense team, doesn't happen often, so there's no guarantee Volvo's generous giveaway will happen. But if a safety occurs, Volvo will randomly select from those who entered the contest, who will then have the opportunity to build their dream 2021 Volvo, whether it's the slick S60 sedan, all-electric XC40 Recharge, the flagship XC90 SUV, or our personal favorite, the V90 Cross Country.
