The Baby Ford Bronco Will Share its Platform with the Focus

August 15, 2018

Don’t worry Bronco fans: The 2020 Ford Bronco will be a body-on-frame SUV. But it looks like its little brother, currently known as the Baby Bronco, will ride on a version of the unibody Ford Focus platform.

Speaking at an automotive conference, Ford’s executive vice president of product development and purchasing, Hau Thai-Tang, confirmed that the new C2 modular platform will support a new Ford Focus, Escape and an unknown future product that will pack “off-road positioning and imagery.”

Think something that fits between the EcoSport and Escape, but sits higher off the ground and has some off-road features like all-wheel drive, pitting it against vehicles like the Jeep Compass and Renegade or the Subaru Crosstrek.

Ford has already teased this vehicle, so we have some idea of what it will look like. The move is part of an effort by Ford to cut its platforms from nine down to five and to expand its crossover and SUV lineup as the automaker slowly cuts down on passenger car production.

The big-boy Bronco will show up sometime in 2019 as a 2020 model, and the new Baby Bronco probably won’t be far behind. It could even hit the market in 2020 as well according to rumors.
