Shelby's New F-250 Super Baja Is Outright Glorious

Just 250 examples are planned.

Sometimes the Ford F-150 Raptor just isn't big enough. It's a problem a relatively small number of off-road truck buyers encounter, but it's still a market void that needs to be filled, and Shelby American has done just that. The Shelby F-250 Super Baja has arrived though production is capped at 250 examples this year. Power comes from Ford's 6.7-liter turbo diesel cranking the same 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque as the stock version.

Shelby American opted instead to concentrate on suspension upgrades, interior, and wheels. Shelby worked directly with FOX to create a unique suspension system for hardcore off-roading, best-in-class towing, and suitable daily driving characteristics.

The kit includes a custom BDS lift system, front radius arms, dual steering stabilizer, and fully adjustable front coilovers. At the rear you'll find Factory Race adjustable shocks with piggyback reservoirs. Tackling tough terrain is a breeze thanks to 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich 37-inch tires.

Just in case owners experience a flat tire or two in the middle of nowhere Shelby has mounted a couple of spare tires to the steel chase rack in the bed. Additional modifications include a functional Ram Air hood, powder-coated steel front and rear bumpers, tow points, and LED lighting on all sides.

Cosmetically, there's a painted front grille, cool fender flares, XL power steps for easier entry and exit, and those trademark Shelby stripes running across the top. There's also Shelby badges inside and out. The upgraded interior has full leather seat covers with brand embroidery. Stainless steel gauges, billet racing pedals, and a dash-mounted serialized plate can also be found.

Be warned though, Shelby's F-250 Super Baja doesn't come cheap. The total cost rings in at $125,805, but this does include the price of the donor F-250 Lariat Ultimate 4x4. Anyone interested should act fast because it's possible this is a one model-year-only deal.
