New Toyota Land Cruiser Has The Perfect Reveal Date

A new generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser is about to begin with the launch of the new 300 Series. This will mark the first time the iconic offroader has been redesigned in over a decade so a redesign is long overdue. There's been a lot of speculation about the reveal date, with reports claiming the covers will come off as early as April.
Now, a new report by Car Advice claims the new Land Cruiser will debut on August 1, 2021. While Toyota hasn't confirmed a debut date, this seems plausible since August 1 coincides with the Land Cruiser's 70th anniversary - what better way to celebrate the Land Cruiser's legacy than unveiling a brand new model?

The Land Cruiser's former chief engineer has also been posting a countdown to August 1, adding to the speculation. When it goes on sale, the new Land Cruiser will have some big changes under the hood.
In the US, the Land Cruiser is only available with a 5.7-liter V8 producing 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque married to an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the next-generation model will reportedly be sold with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 hybrid and a 3.3-liter turbo diesel. Underpinning the redesigned offroader will allegedly be a modified version of the current model's ladder-on-frame platform with upgraded suspension and improved offroad capability.
We aren't expecting any significant exterior changes, however, so expect the styling to get some evolutionary upgrades, while the interior will be more luxurious and technologically advanced. While the new Land Cruiser will go on sale in Europe and Japan, its future isn't looking too bright in the US. Last year, Toyota only shipped 3,500 units in America.
Looking at these lackluster sales figures, you can't blame Toyota for axing the Land Cruiser in America after the 2021 model year. Will the Land Cruiser ever make a comeback in the US? Never say never, but if it does, it will allegedly be several years after the offroader's launch in Japan and Europe.
