2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500: Spied

So, as GM prepares to bring its all-new half-ton pickups — the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 — to market later this year, you can bet chassis engineers and designers are almost ready to show us the 2020 heavy-duty sequel. The automaker has been running heavily camouflaged test trucks in and around the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich. Here's what our spy shooters just sent us.

"Prototypes for GM's next-generation HD pickups have begun testing, and we caught them, giving us our first look at the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 crew-cab dually and a standard-width HD crew cab.

"We expected GM's new HD trucks to hit the test circuit soon, with the debut of the Silverado 1500 out of the way, and here they are, right on cue. The prototypes caught here appear to be Silverado HD variants, judging by the horizontal nature of the placeholder LEDs visible through the front camouflage. We also see what looks like a massive grille — appearing far more prominent on this prototype when compared to the current Silverado 2500 and 3500.

"A deep dive into the specs of the recently unveiled 2019 Silverado 1500 revealed some of the tricks that are also likely destined for the HD truck. The camouflage hides any evidence of the Silverado 1500's innovative front-end aerodynamic air curtains, but that's not surprising since that feature made it all the way to its debut without being leaked. Expect the same stamping and packaging innovations that debuted on the 2019 models to translate to the HD models for increased bed space and cabin space. It's clear from these prototypes that GM's next-generation HD pickups will be massive beasts to match the Ford Super Duty."
