New Ohio cars lose half their value in five years

The average new car in Ohio loses slightly more than half of its value after five years of ownership, according to a study by the car listing service iSeeCars.

Cars in the Buckeye State lose 51.8 percent of their value in that time - slightly above the national average of 50.2 percent.

“While the average new vehicle loses 50.2 percent of its value after five years, there are vehicles that retain more of their value and depreciate less than average,” iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly said in a news release. “For consumers who buy new vehicles and sell them around the five-year mark, choosing a model that retains the most value is a smart economic decision.”

Jeep Wrangler’s had the lowest depreciation rate in Ohio. After five years, the Wrangler lost 28.3 percent of its value. Nissan LEAF’s had the highest depreciation rate in Ohio with 72.5 percent.

“Jeeps are known for retaining their value due to their enduring popularity, as well as their durability and performance across all terrains,” Ly said in the release.
