Jeep Starts Shipping the New Gladiator Out To U.S. Dealers (News)

The first Gladiators headed to dealers left Toledo Assembly today.

After about 15 years of waiting since the last Jeep Gladiator concept debuted in 2005, the actual production truck’s arrival is upon us. Now, Fiat Chrysler announced that the first batch of 2020 Jeep Gladiator trucks are on their way to U.S. dealers.

First unveiled at the 2018 LA Auto Show, we’ve had a few months to come to terms with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. What’s more, Andre had the opportunity to drive one in California last month. While its family tree is unmistakable — look at it straight on, and you might mistake it for a Wrangler — there’s more going on under the skin that makes the Gladiator stand out.

It is being launched with a single engine option. Like the Wrangler, you get a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 285 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. That engine mates to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the Wrangler, however, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator can tow. Quite a bit, actually. A Sport model can tow up to 7,650 pounds when properly equipped. Later on, Jeep will offer the Gladiator with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.

Pricing and trims

You can configure a 2020 Jeep Gladiator right now on Jeep’s website. Unfortunately, the limited-run Launch Edition has sold out, but there are four other trims you can choose from.

The Sport model starts at $35,040 including a $1,495 destination fee. Again, you want to choose either this or the Sport S to get the highest towing capacity. A slight step up to the Sport S will cost you $38,240 and up, and adds more creature comforts, including aluminum wheels and more standard tech.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland starts from $41,890, and is the mid-range model before the off-road ready Rubicon. Step up to the top-level Rubicon trim, and you’ll spend at least $45,040 for your new Gladiator
