Hennessey Announces 750-HP V8 Ford Bronco VelociRaptor

If conspicuous consumption is a game, Hennessey is winning.

We would guess that most Ford Bronco buyers will find the factory power perfectly adequate, whether they opt for Ford's 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, rated at 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft, or the twin-turbocharged 2.7L V6 with 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft.

But "perfectly adequate" has never been Hennessey Performance Engineering's cup of tea; the company trades in excessive, almost grotesque engine outputs, and to them, the new 2021 Ford Bronco is just another SUV begging to be V8-swapped. On Wednesday, the company announced more details about its plan to transform the Bronco into a bonkers 750-horsepower off-road missile dubbed the "Hennessey VelociRaptor V8 Bronco".

Ford's own 5.0L Coyote V8 has been selected for the task, along with a 3.0L twin-screw supercharger with an air-to-water intercooler and a high-flow induction system, fed through a custom hood scoop. The engine will be powered by an upgraded fuel system and a genuine Ford wiring harness and ECU, for reliability's sake, and backed by Ford's ten-speed automatic transmission. It will sound as good as it goes, too, with a stainless steel cat-back exhaust.

Hennessey will work their magic with the VelociRaptor V8 Bronco's suspension and rolling stock, too, gracing the off-road SUV with upgraded suspension components, aluminum wheels, and off-road tires. The front and rear bumpers will be manufactured in-house, with LED auxiliary lights, and the vehicle will feature a unique, custom Hennessey interior with embroidered seat headrests.

If all that sounds good, you might yet be put off by the price: Hennessey says that the VelociRaptor V8 Bronco will come in at around $225,000, all said and done, and just 24 examples will be built, each with its own special, serialized plaque. That's nearly $200,000 more than the price of a base 2021 Ford Bronco.

But then, the VelociRaptor V8 Bronco promises to be a very special vehicle, benefitting from Hennessey's years of experience dropping the same supercharged, 750-horsepower V8 into the F-150 Raptor. Company founder John Hennessey went as far as to call it the "ultimate Ford Bronco." He's probably not wrong about that.
