GMC's Awesome MultiPro Tailgate Just Became Easier To Get

Even the entry-level Sierra is now available with GMC's innovative tailgate.

For the 2019 model year, General Motors introduced the MultiPro tailgate for the GMC Sierra, before rebranding it as the MultiFlex tailgate for the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado. When it launched, the innovative tailgate was only available as standard for the more expensive SLT, AT4 and Denali Sierra trims, but GMC is expanding its availability to give it an advantage over the new Ford F-150.

For the 2021 GMC Sierra, the MultiPro tailgate will be offered as standard for the SLE and Elevation trim levels, meaning it will now be standard for every GMC Sierra 1500 trim apart from the entry-level model.

Owners of the base model don't have to miss out, however, because the MultiPro tailgate will be available as a $595 option. Since it launched for the 2019 Sierra, the MultiPro tailgate has been a popular option, so it's not surprising that GMC wants to expand its availability.

With more standard equipment, the 2021 GMC Sierra has inevitably received a price increase. The entry-level and SLT trims are $400 more expensive than last year, while the Denali trim gets a $500 price increase and the AT4 trim is $600 more expensive. The Elevation trim, on the other hand, is $900 more expensive, while the SLE gets the most significant price jump, retailing for an extra $1,000.

Operated by a touchpad, key fob, or a button on the bed, GMC's MultiPro tailgate offers six different configurations. It can still be opened and closed like a conventional tailgate, or the two aluminum panels can be raised or lowered separately for different scenarios. For example, the inner gate can be used as a load stop when the primary gate is lowered to prevent longer items from sliding out. It can also serve as a standing workstation or a step for easier access to the bed. The upcoming Hummer EV pickup will also be sold with GMC's MultiPro tailgate.
