The modified GMC Canyon is getting a major upgrade for the 2020 model year.

Last year, the GMC Syclone made a comeback after a 27-year hiatus. No, GMC hasn't resurrected the high-performance pickup that was famously faster than a Ferrari back in the 1990s. Instead, Florida-based tuner Specialty Vehicle Engineering revived the name for a special GMC Canyon tuning package.

Under the hood, the 2019 GMC Syclone was powered by a supercharged 3.6-liter V6 engine that produced 455 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, a massive increase over the GMC Canyon's stock 308-hp V6. If that's not enough power for you, we have good news because the third-party GMC Syclone is getting a huge upgrade for the 2020 model year.

In a new teaser video posted on the tuner's Facebook page, Specialty Vehicle Engineering has announced the limited-edition 2020 GMC Syclone will swap the V6 for a supercharged V8 with an increased output of 750 hp. A massive upgrade. While the 2019 Syclone was available with rear- or all-wheel drive, the more powerful 2020 version will be available with AWD only.

Performance details haven't been announced yet, but the 2019 Syclone could accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, so the more powerful 2020 version should be even quicker. For reference, the 1991 GMC Syclone could complete the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.3 seconds.

Other upgrades offered for the 2019 GMC Syclone package are likely to carry over. To help the modified truck cope with the extra muscle, the tuner fitted the GMC Canyon with upgraded brakes featuring six-piston front calipers and massive 13.6-inch rotors.

A re-tuned suspension also improved the handling and lowered the truck by two inches at the front and five inches at the rear. The 2019 version sat on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with custom red Syclone graphics and performance tires. Specialty Vehicle Engineering promises to reveal the full details very soon.
