5 Awesome Features Of The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Did you know all Jeeps come with cool Easter eggs?

Few vehicles are as recognizable and or unique as a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. While Jeep needs to adhere to crash test and emissions regulations, it has still managed to create an old-school off-roader in a market that seems to only crave comfortable crossovers. The Wrangler formula seems like a failing one in this day and age but Jeep continues to sell them hand over fist.

So what is it about the Wrangler that is so appealing to American buyers? Jeep sent us a 2020 Unlimited Rubicon model to enjoy for a week and after a thorough review, there are many elements to like about it. Here are five compelling features of the Jeep Wrangler.

1. Removable Panels

The Wrangler is currently the only vehicle on sale where the ability to remove the doors, side panels, and the windshield is listed as a feature. Open top convertibles can only provide a fraction of the thrill of driving a Wrangler with the doors removed and only a few track day toys and seven-figure Speedsters provide a windshield-less driving experience. Taking off the doors is surprisingly simple and can be achieved by turning just three bolts and unplugging a wiring harness. Jeep even provides a handy storage area in the trunk so you don't lose track of the bolts.

2. Removable Roof

Every Wrangler model includes a removable roof but customers are given three options of how they'd like theirs to be removable. A soft-top comes standard but for improved insulation and security, a hardtop is available in either a plastic or body color finish. Our Wrangler tester was equipped with the third roof option, the Sky One-Touch power-folding top. While the most expensive of the bunch at $3,995, it offers the highest level of convenience.

Unlike the two other roofs, the One-Touch roof can be opened or closed automatically on the move with the press of just one button. There is no need to get out of the vehicle or to store the roof in a garage. The fabric portion of the roof stacks itself at the back, opening up occupants to the elements.

3. EcoDiesel Engine

For the first time ever, the Wrangler Unlimited is available with a diesel engine. Borrowing the 3.0-liter turbocharged EcoDiesel from the Ram 1500, this version of the Wrangler produces 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft torque. That smooth torque is available low in the rev range, enabling effortless passing power and amazing low-speed crawling. It is also the most efficient Wrangler ever with fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

4. Rubicon Capability

All Wrangler models are capable off-road but the Rubicon is the most rugged of the bunch. This version of the Wrangler rides on 33-inch all-terrain tires driven by a Rock-Trac four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case, 4:1 low range gear ratio, and locking front and rear differentials. It also comes equipped with off-road goodies like hill descent control and disconnecting sway bars. Dana 44 heavy-duty front and rear axels ensure that the Wrangler can withstand a beating.

5. Easter Eggs

The Jeep brand loves highlighting its heritage with Easter eggs hidden on all of its vehicles. On the Wrangler Unlimited, we spotted a Willys Jeep on the windshield, tires, and gear selector, a pair of sandals under the windshield wipers, and a cool plaque on the tailgate showing the two-door and four-door wheelbase and overall length measurements with their water fording ability. Jeep has likely hidden even more Easter eggs, so be sure to go hunting for them if you get a chance to drive one.
