This Nissan Frontier Destination Is a Built Overland Rig For Under $40,000 (Overland Debut)

This week Nissan debuts a Destination Frontier 4×4 project truck at the Overland Expo West. We know that the Nissan Frontier is currently the most affordable new pickup truck on the market in the United States. Now, Nissan wants to show that you can build an off-road and overland worthy midsize truck for just under $40,000.

The project started as a crew cab SV 4×4 Midnight Edition, which has a retail price of around $33,000.  Next, Nissan teamed up with Nisstec for 3-inch suspension lift. Underneath are additional skid plates, as well the rock sliders to protect the sides. Up front is a Hefty Fabworks front bumper with a WARN ZEON 10-S winch. 

The truck rides on Nitto Trail Grappler off-road tires that are mounted on American Racing AX201 wheels.

Since Overlanding is really about traveling long distances off-road with overnight stays, Nissan teamed up with several outfitters for additional camping comfort and capability. In the back are Leitner Designs bed rack, CVT Mt. Shasta rooftop tent, Dometic fridge/freezer, Rhino Rack Pioneer tray and Baja Designs LP6 Pro lights. You may have seen many of these brands on other Nissan project trucks. 

The powertrain of this Nissan Frontier remains stock. It’s a very familiar 4.0-liter V6 with 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
