How did this happen?

The official Jeep tagline these days is Go Anywhere. Do Anything. Well, it appears one owner took this to heart and went a bit too far. How so? This guy's Jeep Wrangler Unlimited got stuck at the top of a seriously high ridge.

Getting to the top wasn't a problem. It was descending to lower ground that was impossible without help.

Photos of the stranded Jeep were posted on the Hemet Eye News Facebook group and after being shared nearly four thousand times, locals worked out that it was sitting on or near the West Ridge trail near Loma Linda, a city in San Bernardino County, California. This particular trail is meant for mountain bikers and hikers only, not motor vehicles. And it's easy to understand why.

The narrow ridge meant there was no immediate way down so the owner was forced to abandon ship and seek help elsewhere. Fortunately, the Jeep has now been rescued. How so? Well, it wasn't easy.

A group of owners and their 4x4 Jeeps from the SoCal Jeep club arrived on the scene with some serious equipment, including shackles, straps, and winches. Time was of the essence because they had to beat the sunset. This rescue Jeep fleet then drove up the same ridge in order to reach the stranded Wrangler from the same angle. Upon arrival, they connected a bunch of straps to the Wrangler's front bumper.

One rescuer even hopped inside the Jeep in order to steer it and hit the gas when needed. That's true bravery. We don't know how long exactly it took to safely recover the Jeep but, eventually, the job was done. Thankfully, no one got hurt. Someone on the scene filmed nearly 10 minutes of the rescue operation, just to give you a better idea how complex it was and the amount of manpower required.

So, what's the lesson to be learned here? Well, know your Jeep's limits, despite what the marketing slogans claim. You're liable to get into a hairy (and embarrassing) situation like this guy otherwise.
