The 2021 Ford Bronco Is An Enormous Hit

No surprises there.

There's a lot that Ford could have gotten wrong with the new 2021 Ford Bronco - Ford's first vehicle to wear that nameplate since the late-1990s - but from where we sit, it looks like a massive success. Based on the Ford Ranger's traditional body-on-frame chassis and equipped with standard four-wheel drive, with a full range of serious off-roading equipment available, the boxy, retro-modern-styled Bronco is just the Jeep Wrangler competitor fans were hoping for.

And apparently, the numbers bear that out, as the 2021 Ford Bronco has already amassed some 230,000 reservations, according to an administrator on the Bronco6G forums.

Now, we have to issue a disclaimer or two with that figure. First, we can't independently verify its accuracy. The Bronco6G admin who made the claim cited only "one of [Bronco6G's] reliable sources" as the originator of that 230,000 figure, and naturally, we don't know who that source is or how close they are to the Ford Bronco program.

That said, Bronco6G has proven a very reliable source of information on the new 2021 Bronco thus far, including detailed pricing. But even if the figure is accurate, not all reservations will translate into sales. In fact, Ford required only a refundable $100 deposit to secure a 2021 Bronco reservation, meaning there's very little to deter someone from making a reservation rashly, with little intention of actually buying.

Still, 230,000 is a lot of reservations, and that figure is likely still growing by the day; Ford only just revealed the new Bronco on July 13, meaning reservations have been open for little more than two weeks as of this writing. If 2021 Bronco sales match the number of reservations, it will nearly tie the Jeep Wrangler's best year ever for US sales: 2018, with 240,032 units sold.

All this is to say: if you were planning on reserving a 2021 Ford Bronco, you'd better get on that fast. Ford might not have many units left to allot.
