Tesla Will Take Cybertruck On A Tour Across America

It could happen before the end of the year, CEO Elon Musk claims.

To say the Tesla Cybertruck's design was polarizing at the time of its reveal late in 2019 would be a gargantuan understatement. Upon first seeing the prototype, more than one person thought it might all have been an elaborate joke, and the memes started rolling in immediately.

Most notably, a hacker got to work immediately inserting Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the Cybertruck into GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. The result was epic.

But Tesla has more or less stood by the design, and Musk seems to think America is ready for a second look, stating on Twitter that Tesla plans to drive the bizarrely shaped electric pickup across the US.

Since last week, the Tesla Cybertruck prototype has resided in Los Angeles's Petersen Automotive Museum, but the vehicle is set to be returned this month. Some time after, before the end of the year, Tesla apparently plans to take it on a cross-country road trip.

Of course, if there's one US automaker known for postponing plans or scrapping them altogether, it's Tesla, so we wouldn't be surprised if the drive never happened. It's also uncertain what the primary purpose of the trek would be - to show the Cybertruck off, in person, to audiences across America that so far haven't shared a space with the vehicle, or to test its range, capability, and durability in the real world.

In other words, if the Cybertruck does make its way through your town, there's a real chance you might not even know about it.

The Tesla Cybertruck is slated to start production in late-2021, in an all-new factory whose location still hasn't been finalized. It will lose out on being the first electric pickup to market, coasting in after the LMC Endurance, Rivian R1T, and Bollinger B2, at the very least. But it will certainly be the most unique-looking of the bunch.
