2018 Ford F150 Limited

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened investigation into several 2015-2018 Ford F-150 fires that allegedly resulted due to the activation of the front seat belt pretensioners during an accident.

Here is the link to the NHTSA Ford F-150 investigation.

There are five accidents which allege that a fire broke out due to the front seat belt pretensioners in the B-pillar. Two of the fires were small and extinguished themselves, but the three other fires burned the trucks completely.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the exact sequence of event that cause the problem are still being determined. The seat belt pretensioners are produced by ZF TRW and Takata. If the seat belt fault is determined, this can initiate a recall of nearly 2 million Ford F-150s that model years between 2015-2018.
