Although 2020 has just begun automakers are already revealing 2021 models, and GMC is one of them. Presenting the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4, a more off-road focused variant of the already popular midsize pickup truck. The Canyon AT4 represents an expansion of the AT4 moniker across the lineup. It's already available on the GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD trucks as well as the Acadia crossover.

The Canyon AT4 will replace the Canyon All Terrain as the go-to off-road trim. GMC claims this latest midsize pickup truck targets premium midsize truck buyers who like to go off the beaten path. Like other AT4 trims, the Canyon AT4 features unique exterior and interior styling features, among them a bolder look with dark chrome finishes, a larger grille, and red recovery hooks. That grille is actually a design enhancement of the Denali trim grille boasting a more "sculpted and layered pattern."

The interior is equipped with upgraded Kalahari stitching and an 'AT4' headrest embroidery. GMC didn't just give the Canyon AT4 tough looks but also some serious off-road standard equipment. Owners will benefit from 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, 17-inch wheels, an off-road-tuned suspension with Advanced Hill Descent Control, four-wheel-drive system with Eaton G80 Rear Automatic Locking Differential, and a transfer case skid plate for additional protection.

Under the hood lies the familiar 3.6-liter V6 with 308 horsepower. The 2.8-liter diesel with 369 lb-ft of torque remains optional.

"The new 2021 Canyon AT4 broadens the appeal to midsize truck customers who live an active lifestyle," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. "Much like the Sierra AT4 has attracted new customers from outside GMC, the Canyon AT4 will attract outdoor enthusiasts looking for a premium midsize truck to GMC with the capability, technology and refinement they've come to expect."

The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 will be built alongside the rest of the Canyon and Chevy Colorado lineup at GM's Wentzville Assembly Center in Missouri. Sales will begin later this year and pricing will be announced at a later date.
