New Ford Performance accessory packages are available in three levels.

While the all-new Ford F-150 may be hogging all the attention, not everyone will be able to afford the cost of the large truck. For shoppers on a tighter budget, there is the smaller Ford Ranger, and it's now even more appealing thanks to the introduction of three Ford Performance accessory packages for 2019 and 2020 four-wheel-drive Ranger models.

Regardless of the package you choose, each one adds an off-road leveling kit, FOX shocks that have been specially tuned by Ford Performance, special Ford Performance exterior graphics, and 17-inch Dyno Gray wheels. The upgraded trucks do indeed look more willing to get their boots dirty than the regular Ranger.

The Ford Performance Level 1 package costs $2,495 before installation and encompasses all the upgrades just mentioned. Level 2 takes the price up to $4,495, includes everything from Level 1, but also gets a 16-percent increase in power to 315 hp and bump up in torque to 370 lb-ft. It also adds a rigid off-road fog light kit, blue tow hooks, a stainless steel license plate frame, and BFGoodrich tires.

Moving up to Level 3 will cost you a hefty $8,995. This includes Level 1 and 2 equipment plus a rigid 40-inch LED lightbar kit (visible in the orange example below), an ARB winch-capable front bumper, a bespoke chase rack, red tow hooks, and the 2.3-liter Ford Performance sport exhaust. These upgrades add some real attitude, even if it isn't quite a Ranger Raptor.

Eric Cin, the global director for Ford Vehicle Personalization, is confident about the new packages. "Our goal is to inspire customers by giving them capabilities and styling options from the aftermarket brands they love," he said. According to Ford, US owners of Ranger pickups spent an average of around $650 on accessories for 2019 models. "Our truck customers don't need to drive their all-new vehicle off the lot over to an aftermarket outfitter," concluded Cin.

Level 1 and 2 packages will be available from August, so they're not yet visible on Ford's online configurator. For buyers interested in the Level 3 upgrade, it will only be offered from next summer, but it's an appealing addition - at least until the all-new Ranger arrives.
