Ford's partnership with B&O is paying off.

The all-new 2021 Ford F-150 has been revealed with the hope of extending its lead in a segment that's more competitive than ever before. We covered a few of the F-150's best new features previously, including an available Tailgate Workspace, but Ford knows that the F-150 is more than just a work truck - it's also got to function as a comfortable and high-tech leisure truck for the family.

With this in mind, the F-150 is the first vehicle to be fitted with the new B&O Unleashed sound system, which features up to 18 speakers for a truly immersive sound experience.

Lower down in the range, an eight-speaker, 640-watt B&O sound system is available, but audiophiles will definitely want to go for the Unleashed version. Much thought went into speaker placement to ensure the best experience possible no matter where occupants are seated.

For instance, speakers mounted in the headrests provide a "near-ear" audio experience that's a cut above more generic systems. There are also headliner speakers for a multi-dimensional sound effect. These speakers have laser-etched aluminum grilles for a more premium look. The Unleashed system is standard on the Limited and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims.

"We're thrilled to be growing our fruitful partnership with Ford with an expanded range of B&O audio options available for a wider group of F-Series owners than ever before," said Bill Wymen, Vice President of Global Marketing, Car Audio, for Harman. The latest move comes after Ford and B&O's global partnership began in 2016.

The upcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E is also anticipated to benefit from this enhanced audio experience. While a sound system may seem trivial in a tough truck like the F-150, these are the moves Ford needs to make to match the latest Ram 1500, which has a thoroughly modern cabin with an available 19-speaker sound system. At least now, Ford pretty much matches the offering of one of its closest rivals.
