Does a New EcoDiesel Make the 2020 Ram Rebel the Best Half-Ton Off-Roader? Watch Us Take it in the Mud!

August 15, 2019

We finally had the chance to get our hands on the 2020 Ram EcoDiesel, so we went straight for a Rebel and took it out into the mud.

An embargo has been placed on full driving impressions until Monday August 19, so we can’t tell you exactly how we feel about the truck until then (make sure to come back for another great video on the 19th). Luckily though we can show you the truck, including a chat with the chief engineer, detailing everything that is new with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine.

The third generation EcoDiesel makes 260 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 480 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm, leading the class in torque but falling a little shy of GM’s new 3.0-liter diesel with 277 hp.

About 80 percent of the parts used in this third generation EcoDiesel are all new according to Ram, and it seems that the brand focused on efficiency along with noise reduction. No EPA fuel economy numbers exist for the engine yet, but we will be sure to share them as soon as we have them.

Max towing for the 2020 EcoDiesel checks in at 12,560 pounds when you have a base model with two-wheel drive, falling just shy of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8.

Be sure to watch the full video review above where Andre speaks with the engineers who built this engine and takes it for a spin.
