Big League Build: L.A. Dodgers Owner Unveils “Fastball” Trophy Truck

Are you a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers? How about off-road racing? How about both?

For those that may not know, Bobby Patton owns the Dodgers. Mr. Patton just happens to also be a fan of off-road racing. After winning the 50th Anniversary of the SCORE Baja 1000’s Vintage class, Patton decided to take it up a notch. He teamed up with Jimco to build a true Trophy Truck spec-racing ride. The racing team is called Fastball Racing. Their plan is to invade the 2019 SCORE racing series and make their mark winning big races. The first race on the list is the SCORE International San Felipe 250.

This truck is no joke and has been outfitted to win. The SCORE spec LS3 motor was built by Danzio Performance and is ready to hit the trail. A three-speed Turbo 400 transmission built by Gearworks backs up the motor. A custom Jimco aluminum fuel cell will supply a full 80 gallons of fresh juice to keep things moving. All of that beef will be brought to a stop by Jamar Trophy Truck calipers.

The Fastball truck is too legit to quit.

40-inch BF Goodrich KR3 tires are wrapped around 17-inch Trail Ready bead locks. The truck also features a Howe rack and pinion to turn the big rubber. A complete wiring harness from Wirefab was sourced to power it all. Lighting for the desert is handled by Baja Designs LED lights.

The suspension of the truck is long travel, as you would expect. A total of 26 inches are available up front. The rear suspension cycles an outstanding 32 inches. All four corners of the trophy truck are suspended by Fox Racing and are specifically tuned to this application.

Inside this impressive vehicle, function takes precedent over form. Navigation is handled via a Leadnav and Lowrance HDS5 GPS system. A Kenwood 50W radio equipped with a PCI Radios intercom system ensures that the team has the ability to communicate while mobbing through the desert.

Occupants are secured in place by Impact HS1 seats. Impact safety harnesses and window nets also make sure that what is supposed to stay inside the truck does. The truck is built to spec for the SCORE racing series, so many additional features (such as a welded cage and fire suppression system) are also present.

The exterior of the rig is sprayed in an appropriate Dodger Blue. We can’t wait to see this thing get out and hit some big air. Patton didn’t just throw some money at this team either. Instead, he enlisted one of the most legendary off-road racers to help get the team prepped for the upcoming season – Ricky Johnson. Ricky has worked with the team prior to the 2019 season to get everyone up to fastball speed.

We believe that there are plenty of fans of both baseball and off-roading. In fact, we would not be the least bit surprised to see a huge fanbase come out to support this new venture by Patton. We wish he and his team the best of luck going into this season. They just might need it, as these are tough races no matter what your level of preparation and equipment.
