Mini-Feature: Casey Currie’s JL Build

When Casey Currie has his sights set on something, he has to take it to the max. Part and parcel of this is his take on the latest Wrangler to hit the market – the JL.

Casey received one of these brand new beauties in January, and it wasn’t long before he had it customized to the way he desired. We reached out to his team and spoke with Cody Currie to learn more about the build.

The Jeep was bone stock when it arrived in January (left) and less than a month later, was lifted and ready to rock (right).

“We’re always trying to the latest and greatest,” said Cody. “We got the Sahara version, which we did on the JK as well. We have a Currie four-inch lift kit installed, along with Currie RockJock 60 VXR front and rear axles.”

The RockJock 60 VXRs, for those that don’t know, are the penultimate axles offered by Currie Enterprises. They’re designed for severe off-road use, V8 horsepower, and 40-inch tires. Currie beefs them up by way of reinforcing critical areas, larger diameter axle tubes, a stage II high-pinion nodular iron center section, and more.

“At the ends of these axles, we threw on a set of 40-inch Nitto Mud Grapplers with 17-inch KMC beadlock wheels,” said Cody. “We cycled the suspension to find the extremes of droop and bump and sent our measurements to Fox to make a set of custom shocks, too.”

The JL also features a number of custom-made CRC products, which the JL was a testbed for. “Currently, we have our CRC front bumper installed, and we’re developing other CRC products to work on the JL,” explained Cody. “We will soon have a CRC rear bumper, CRC fiberglass fenders, CRC fiberglass hood, and CRC rock guards.”

Lighting is courtesy of Baja Designs, and provides all the forward visibility one could ask for. “We’ve installed their 50-inch light bar over the windshield, and pod lights for each of the A-pillars,” said Cody. As for the engine and transmission, those will remain stock for the time being, as well as the interior.

Overall, Casey Currie is a big fan of the JL, as Cody told us. “He likes it a lot,” he said. “The interior is amazing, it drives well, the seats are nice. Ours came with the technology package, so there’s an iPad-like screen on the dashboard.”

The JL was ready in time for this year’s King of the Hammers, which Casey competed in using his uncle’s “Hammers Jeep.” He plans to take the JL to several events in 2018, with the next one being the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab (3/24-4/1/18). The other planned events are the Jeep Beach in Daytona Beach, Florida (4/24-29/18) and Go Topless Jeep Weekend in Port Bolivar, Texas (5/20/18).
