Perfect for workmen and outdoor enthusiasts.

The brand new 2021 Ford F-150 is nearly here. For the first time, Ford's best-selling pickup will be offered with a plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrain for its fourteenth generation. But this won't be the only new feature Ford will offer for the first time in the F-150's history.

According to Muscle Car and Truck's sources, the new Ford F-150 will finally be offered with an onboard electricity generator that can be used to power tools at a construction site or electrical devices during camping trips, which will no doubt please outdoor enthusiasts and save space in the truck bed.

Unfortunately, the publication's sources didn't provide any further details, so we don't know how much this option will cost or which trims it will be available on. However, the available generator will allegedly be offered for gasoline and plug-in hybrid variants of the new Ford F-150.

This isn't the first time Ford has experimented with adding onboard generators to its F-Series trucks. Last year, BDS Suspension presented a custom F-350 with a power inverter at the 2019 SEMA show. A year earlier, the Transfer Flow Ford F-150 presented at the 2018 SEMA show featured a 2,000 Watt inverter system with AC and USB ports, but now it looks like Ford is finally ready to put it into production.

As well as an onboard generator, the all-new Ford F-150 will feature over-the-air updates for the first time. While the exterior will get some subtle refinements, leaked photos have shown the interior will be upgraded with a stow-away shifter, a larger 15.5-inch infotainment screen, and a new digital instrument cluster. All these details suggest the new Ford F-150 will offer some welcome improvements over its predecessor. Having been introduced in 2015, the current F-150 is still relatively new, but Ford can't afford to trail behind the recently updated Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado so the F-150 needs to be as up to date as possible.

We still don't have a debut date for the new Ford F-150, but Ford has already confirmed customer deliveries will start in October so we shouldn't have to wait too much longer for the redesigned pickup to break cover.
