2019 Ram 1500 Chosen as Truck of Texas

After two days of rain-soaked test drives of 57 qualifying pickup trucks, SUVs and crossovers, the Texas Auto Writers Association selected the new 2019 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas.

The overall prize is typically the most coveted of several awards presented by the professional organization, which this year included 69 journalists choosing 24 category winners. In addition to the Truck of Texas overall award, the 2019 Ram 1500's Limited trim scored a win in the Full-Size Pickup Truck category, the Laramie Longhorn variant won for Luxury Pickup Truck, and the Rebel won for Off-Road Pickup Truck.

Ram parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had an especially good year this time around. The 2019 Maserati Levante GTS won the SUV of Texas and Full-Size Luxury SUV category, while the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio took home the CUV of Texas as well as winning the Luxury CUV category.

"Being named the Texas Auto Writers Association's Truck of Texas is the highest honor in the world's largest pickup market," said Reid Bigland, newly appointed head of Ram brand and U.S. sales and chairman, president and CEO of FCA Canada. "The all-new Ram 1500 offers the best combination of class-exclusive features, refinement, capability and efficiency. Winning this award is a challenge, but the Ram 1500 is well-suited to the hard-working needs of Texas truck buyers."

Other FCA winners included the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (Mid-Size SUV), 2019 Dodge Durango SRT (Full-Size SUV), 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit (Mid-Size Luxury SUV), 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (Off-Road Utility Vehicle), 2018 Ram 2500 Power Wagon (Heavy-Duty Pickup), Uconnect 4C with a 12-inch screen (Best Technology) and Ram's eTorque mild-hybrid unit (Best Powertrain).

It's worth noting that this year's competition did not include any Ford or GM (Chevy or GMC) products because each of those manufacturers decided not to attend this year's event.
