2019 Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance to Highlight Space Age Pickups

Trucks have always been a large part of all top-level car shows, but they're usually in the background, supporting the million-dollar exotics - especially if the title of the event has the word "concours" in it. But it looks like one of the biggest shows on the East Coast wants to change that by making pickup trucks one of the center stage displays in 2019. For the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance, the South Florida organizers will be creating a special class next year specifically for vintage pickups.

From what we understand, the show will be celebrating the style and design inspired by the Space Age of the 1950s and '60s. This means pickups with tailfins like the

Chevrolet Cameo and Dodge C-Series sweptsides as well as some funky forward-control machines like the Ford Econoline pickup. This particular generation of pickups was also the last gasp in North American for rebadged pickups with brand names like Mercury and Fargo. We'd expect to see a few Powell pickups, too.

The idea is to put a good crop of classic pickups together to generate wider interest in celebrating classic trucks, and we think that deserves some special attention here. It will be an unjudged display class; that means no "Best in Class" awards. Still, at an event where classic Bentleys and Ferraris are parked on manicured lawns, it's nice to know they are finally going to share some space with the vehicles that probably helped till that soil.
