2016-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra 3500: Recall Alert

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 18,600 model-year 2016-18 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 heavy-duty pickup trucks equipped with gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks

The Problem: The fuel-level sensor in the front tank may stick in a low-level position, allowing the rear tank to overfill the front tank. If the front tank overfills, excess pressure may cause the front tank to expand and contact the driveshaft, possibly resulting in a hole in the tank that, in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the rear-tank fuel-pump module, inspect the front tank and, if necessary, replace the front tank. All repairs will be done for free.

What Owners Should Do: Chevrolet and GMC manufacturer GM mailed interim notices to owners on March 5; owners will receive a second notice when a remedy becomes available.
